The BCCI had planned a camp for contracted players a few weeks ago but there is no word on the its commencement as of now. The camp was planned to allow the Indian contracted players to practice together for the bilateral series coming up later this year (November to be precise) against Australia. India also have a long home series against England next year.
The Indian team’s last outing was on 13th March 2020, in a home tour against South Africa which eventually was called off due to outbreak of novel coronavirus pandemic.
The Indian players have been away from each other from the past 4 months. Although they have trained and maintained their fitness level at home but haven’t hit the nets for a long period.
In order to gel these players together and track their performances, BCCI had set up a camp in the newly Inaugurated Motera Stadium, Ahmedabad. Motera stadium was chosen because the facilities are good and the COVID-19 active cases in Ahmedabad are less.
According to media sources, BCCI had planned this camp for Indian players from 18th August to 4th September just before the IPL. But there is no official statement from BCCI yet, therefore the contracted players are likely to join the camps of respective IPL franchises directly in UAE.
