Arrangements are underway to host the T20 World Cup next year. Indian and Australian board officials will hold talks at the ICC board meeting on Friday. The BCCI will push hard to hold the mega event in 2021.
According to the details, the T20 World Cup in Australia in October-November this year was postponed due to the situation caused by the coronavirus. On the other hand, India had to host a T20 World cup event next year. The T20 World Cup will now take place in October next year, but the decision to host it was postponed.
According to the reports, the BCCI wants to host the T20 World Cup in 2021 while Australia too wishes to host its mega event in 2021. A decision in this regard is expected at the ICC board meeting on Friday. Saurav Ganguly and secretary Jay Shah, while Cricket Australia chairman Earl Eddings and chief executive Nick Hockley will fight their case via video conferencing, according to an ICC board member. They are trying their best not to go through the ordeal of waiting until 2022.
On the other hand, the position of the BCCI cannot be said to be weak either. Officials rightly believe that if Australia hosts next year’s mega event, India will host the first T20 World Cup 2022 and then the 50-over World Cup 2023. Doesn’t seem reasonable to host ICC events back to back, the BCCI will push hard to fight its case. The very possibility is that Australia will have to wait for 2 years to host their World T20 in 2022.
