After a 5-month long wait, IPL-2020 was officially announced to be held in UAE from 19th September to 10th October.  The IPL governing council meeting had announced this news on Sunday and gave few details regarding IPL. One highlighting statement by one of the board members was – “There will be no change in the sponsorship contract, which was given on Saturday itself.” It isn’t easy to find a new sponsor special in the financial crisis.

India and China have been foes for a while now. This all happened 45 days ago when 20 Indian soldiers were killed in Ladakh by chinese troops. India took action against this incident. They banned 59 chinese apps and some popular apps like Tik Tok , UC Browser, Share it etc, declaring that these apps affected the privacy of the users.

There were speculations made that the title sponsor of IPL ‘Vivo’ could also be boycotted. But pre announcement of IPL it was likely that Vivo would continue to be the title sponsor as they had invested Rs 2,199 for  a period of 5 years. It isn’t easy to find a new sponsor in such a short span of time.

The fans took the social media and there was #BoycottIPL trending on twitter.

A fan commented – “If they can’t boycott their chinese sponsors, We will be overwhelmed to boycott The whole @IPL #BoycottIPL

Another fan commented –  “Doesn’t matter who all plays… The winner this #IPL will be #China #ChinaIPL #IPL2020 #IPLinUAE #ChineseIPL

Political figure Mr Ashwani Mahajan – “Indian Premier League (IPL) is  a business & those running this biz are insensitive towards the nation and it’s security concerns. Whole world is boycotting China, the IPL is sheltering them. They should understand that nothing is above nation, not even cricket. Ppl may #BoycottIPL”.
